Down To Earth Righteousness

Obey your flesh and descend into darkness

How can we know anything about anything

To try to explain truth to him who loves it not is but to give him more plentiful material for misinterpretation. George Macdonald

Do we have to make a choice between science and the Bible?

NO!

That is NOT where the problem is, but that is what everyone seems to want to talk about.

Take science as an example. How can we know anything about the created material world around us?

How can we know anything from what we can see using natural sciences?

We all see the same things in the material world, but we don't come to the same answers.

Why is that?

How can we know anything about the Bible and what it teaches? Every person believes different things about the Bible and how it should be read.

Why is that?

Same scientific facts. Different answers.

Same Bible. Different answers.

Why is that?

The true question is this: How do we come to our answers that we get from what we can see through science or what we can read in the Bible?

How do we think about what we see using science or what we read in the Bible?

How do we analyze what we have seen and read?

How do we interpret what we have seen and read?

We use logic, but logic always has a foundation. Jesus talked about building on the Rock. That Rock is Jesus Christ. He is the true foundation. There are also the false foundations of the ungodly.

An example might help.

Question: Why do you believe in evolution?

Answer: Because my science teacher told me that evolution is scientific fact.

Question: Why do you believe your science teacher?

Answer: because he agrees with the textbook he assigned us to read.

Now, we have asked, "Why?" twice.

If we continued to ask, "Why?" we would come down to the foundation of this person's thoughts.

When we get down to the foundations, there are no more questions that can be answered. So where to the foundations come from?

There are three possibilities.

  1. things that we make up, pulled from the air
  2. demonic lies
  3. divine revelation

Question: Why do you believe in creation?

Answer: Because God revealed this to me. He spoke to me through the Bible and gave me His faith so that I could believe Him.

See how quickly we got to the foundation. This is a belief that has a foundation that is solid and that cannot be moved.

In reality, the things that we make up, that are pulled from the air, are actually from demons and all the lies of demons spring from the prince of demons, Satan. So these are one and the same.

Divine revelation comes from the Almighty, Creator, God, Jesus Christ. So there are only two choices, but how do we know there are only two choices? Because God has revealed this truth to us.

The question then is how do we tell the difference between the revelation that comes from God and the lies of Satan?

The answer is that everyone who sincerely wants to do the will of God will know.

Jesus said, "If you really want to obey God, you will know if what I teach comes from God or from me"

The rejection of the revelation that comes from God is not an intellectual problem. It is a moral problem.

Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened." *

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? Matthew 7:7-11 *

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can set the truth before someone, but you can't make anyone believe those things that they don't want to submit to. They have to want to obey God.

How frequently it is brought to our attention that nothing good can be done if the will is wrong! Reason alone fails to justify itself. Richard M. Weaver

Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32)

"If we are not prepared to buy the truth at the cost of our own humbling we shall not receive it"

Lies appear to have no price upon them. They seem cheap and they abound everywhere. But for the truth there is always an obvious price to pay.

"[God] has set a day when He will judge all the world's people with fairness. And He has chosen the man Jesus to do the judging for Him. God has given proof of this to all of us by raising Jesus from death" (Acts 17:31).

"There is a judge for the one who rejects Me [Jesus] and does not accept My words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day" (John 12:48)

That also stands for every person who speaks the utterances of Jesus. When we hear them, we hear Jesus Christ, and we either accept or reject. Every person who follows Jesus Christ is commanded to only speak His utterances and not their own.

"When we love others, we know that we belong to the truth, and we feel at ease in the presence of God" (1 John 3:19)

Ravi Zacharias did two open forums in a university. On the second night, one man told him that he had brought two Atheists in the night before who said that the arguments presented were so strong that they could not contend with them, but they were going to remain Atheists because that is what they prefer to be true.

In another case of just listening to an unbeliever and drawing out his reasoning, the unbeliever finally came to his foundations.

They turned out to be assumptions that were pulled from the air. When asked why he believed his basic assumption, the unbeliever looked startled and blurted out, "I guess I'm making the whole thing up." It was quite a revelation to him since he hadn't even known that he had any assumptions. However, he decided to remain an Atheist because he didn't want God to rule over him.

Down to earth righteousness is real and it has to do with the will of the person through whom the righteousness is done..  It is righteousness the flows from the Holy Spirit.  It is the flow of God's Own Love through the follower of Christ.  It is the fruit of the Spirit.  God speaks, leads.  The Christ follower hears and directs his or her will to follow.  God's Own Faith comes to the Christ follower and gives access to grace, the free gift.  Grace does the works.  Those who do not will to do God's will cannot hear in this way.

The majority of people would like to change what the Bible says to conform to the type of righteousness that they would want to do.  That would mean that God doesn't really say what the Bible says that He says.  That is a lie.  That is a lie that would like to bind you.  There is a way to have righteousness, but it is the way of humility, not the way of pride.  It is not self-righteousness.  It is not fake righteousness.  It is the righteousness that is by grace and through faithTrue righteousness is always by grace through faith.

It seems that this would be a good place to say that God does speak and God does act.  Some people say God cannot speak.  That's because they don't want to hear Him (Ezekiel 12:1-2).  There have been times when I have found myself discouraged by those who say that God doesn't do anything and that God doesn't speak.  Naturalism is a cult and Naturalism's philosophy is a complex lie.  Materialism is a cult and Materialism's philosophy is also a complicated lie.  Lies make us captive, but the Truth sets us free.  Naturalism and Materialism have theologies that say that God does not speak and God does not intervene in our lives.  Unfortunately, these cults can influence our thinking because they spread their message through many means.  Let God be true and every man a liar.

When we do things that God has not directed us to do, we fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).  When we do the things that God leads us to do, that is righteousness (Romans 6:16).  Actually, righteousness requires that God does the work through us (1 Corinthians 15:10).  Righteousness is imparted.  The way is very narrow, more narrow that we had suspected (Matthew 7:13 & 14).  Whatever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23).  The Holy Spirit leads us and we either obey the Holy Spirit or we do not (Romans 11:23).  There is no gray area (Matthew 12:33-37).  We look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and we make no provision for the flesh (Romans 13:14).  The way is very narrow.

When we seek Him, we do find Him (Matthew 7:7-8), and He speaks His word in contradiction to the word of temptation that our own heart generated (John 10:24-27).  So, we get a lot of direction from the devil, the world, and our sinful flesh, but we are not slaves to these three any more.  It seems that the world and the devil only have influence over us through the flesh.  If we were totally holy, we could not be tempted, because the Bible says that we are tempted when we are drawn away by our own desires.  When we obey our fleshly nature, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and says, "I have paid for that sin."  God forgives us by the blood of Jesus simply because we believe Him.  If we sin, the seeds of the obedience to Satan and disobedience to God are planted, however.  God's plan is that we turn to Him instead... every single time.  When temptation comes, we look away to Jesus.  We hear His voice and faith comes by hearing as hearing came by the word (literally, utterance) of God (Romans 10:17).

For example, if I am offended, I may react by feeling hurt.  That hurt feeling quickly turns to some degree of anger.  It can happen so fast and outside of my consciousness that it's impossible for me to stop it.  It's built into my physiology.  So, I reject that feeling as something offered by the enemy of my soul.  Instead, I look away to Jesus, who comforts me and tells to forgive.  I hear His word of comfort and I desire to forgive, but I can't do it in my own strength.  However, in listening to His instruction with a humble and submissive attitude, faith wells up and opens the door to grace.  The Holy Spirit flows in with the power to forgive.  I yield my members to Him.  Rather than yielding my tongue to my sinful and destructive flesh and responding to my brother with a harsh word, the Holy Spirit gives me a word from His throne for the situation.  The Holy Spirit speaks the word through me.  I become the very mouthpiece of God (1 Peter 4:11).  I also yield my emotions of my body to the Holy Spirit, and I can feel my negative emotions settling down and being replaced by that peace that passes all understanding.

Without the grace of God, I would have followed the negative emotions of my flesh.  I would have used words and emotions that did not flow from God.  I would have hurt my brother and done damage to our relationship.  The anger would have simmered in my heart, and I would have let the sun go down upon my wrath.  That would have turned anger into roots of bitterness, and those would be the source of future trouble.

That was one example, but the same would apply to any other type of temptation.  We make differences between temptations, but every temptation is an opportunity to obey God or a risk that we may chose to obey the fleshly nature.  It doesn't matter if the temptation is overeating, not speaking up for Jesus, not reading the Bible, creating church orders that are not biblical, saying what should not be said, looking at what should not be looked at, or entertaining thoughts that are unclean.  The basic principles hold true.  Whatever is not of faith is sin.  Jesus is the author and finisher of our our faith (Hebrews 12:2).  Whatever He didn't author is sin.  That's pretty plain.

As, when God spoke, all of the universe came into existence, so when God now speaks, faith comes into existence.  I can remember when I used to mistakenly think that faith was just believing in something without any proof.  Now, I realize that true faith is not a rationalization but rather a spiritual substance; it is the substance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1).  Faith is tied closely to truth.  By faith, we have access into God's grace (Romans 5:2).  Jesus stands at the door, knocking (Revelation 3:20).  Through faith, we can open that door and let His grace (free gift) come in (Romans 5:2).

We are saved from sin and to righteousness (Romans 6, 7, And 8).  We were slaves to Satan, but now we are free to obey God (Romans 6:16).  If we hear God's voice as the children of Israel did at the foot of Mt. Sinai and then they went about to establish their own righteousness, being ignorant of God's righteousness that is freely available through the blood of Jesus Christ, then, we, just as they, have not submitted ourselves to God's righteousness (Romans 10:3).  God has a form of quality control in His Kingdom, and that is to test everything with fire.  When we try to do good things that we generate out of our own perceived goodness, those works will be burned up by God's quality control (1 Corinthians 3:11-15).  We yield our members as instruments of God's righteousness (Romans 6:13), so He can do His works through us (Galatians 2:19-21).  This is the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).  This is righteousness (Hebrews 2:21).  This is Love (Romans 13:8-10).  God does the work (Ephesians 2:10).  We wait patiently for His righteousness to appear in us (Galatians 5:5).

I have sometimes worn myself out trying to do God's will by my own effort.  I can't do it.  God is looking for a Spirit-led life.  Sheep are led.  Goats are driven.  God doesn't want to drive us.  He certainly doesn't want us trying to drive ourselves.  We don't look at God's purpose and let it drive us.  We look to God Himself and yield to Him and let Him guide, direct, and empower us.  This is not a theoretical thing.  This is a presonal experience with God.  This is deep intimacy with the Most High.  We let Him do His works through us.  We need the flow of the anointing that comes from the throne of God.  That is to say, we need the Holy Spirit flowing as a mighty river.  Out of your innermost being, rivers of water flow.  Out of your innermost being, joy celestial flows.  Out of your innermost being, banishing all your fears.  Out of your innermost being, Jesus, the Christ, appears.

There is so much more for you. This is what you have been missing. Don't let anyone deceptively keep you from fulfilling your destiny and God's purpose for your life.

Prayer, Bible, Unity

God has established the pattern of Scripture, for life and for the Church.

You can feel free to use the Contact Form further down on this page to ask any question regarding this pattern of Scripture. The Church, the Body of Christ, and discernment of this Body, is the method that God is using to finish the work in His Body. The Body of Christ, God's Temple, is built up by that which every joint supplies, building each other up in love, and the Temple must be built according to the pattern of Scripture.

Prayer, Bible, Unity

We believe the Holy Scriptures teach:
  • The 5 apostolic ministries (Ephesians 4:11)
  • The nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)
  • Local congregations overseen by elders and deacons (Titus 1:5)
  • Every member having and being a ministry in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:11)
  • Being led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14)
  • The gathering together of the Body of Christ (Genesis 49:10, John 17:21)
End

If you seek God, you will find Him through His Son, Jesus.

Down To Earth Righteousness

Human theology and reasoning is not necessarily correct, but the Bible is without error. The Bible can only be understood by revelation, and revelation is given by the Spirit of God. God does reveal in His own way. But we only know in part. If we think we know any thing, we do not know it as we ought. We are instructed, by God, to keep seeking Him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. The truth sets us free. Lies bind us. Whoever seeks Jesus does find Him. Jesus is the truth.
