James 5:14-15, The Elders Anoint With Oil For HealingNotice that the anointing of oil is reserved for the elders of the church. The elder is also a bishop. This order was changed by men after the order had been established by God. Interestingly, there is no mention ever of a single elder or bishop in a local church. There is no mention of a chief elder. There is no mention of a locally abiding pastor, although the elders are told to pastor (care for as a shepherd cares for sheep) the flock of God. In the scriptural order, the local elders and deacons are set by the Holy Spirit through traveling elders and deacons (the office of apostle). This order of elders has been restored to the church in the years following the outpouring of 1948. With it comes the order of healing by anointing with oil and the laying on of hands. The order of elders only functions properly under the Biblical order of apostles. There are false apostles and real apostles, and the saints of God are responsible to get close enough to God so that they will be able to tell the difference. James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. |
