| v.2 What We Are Doesn't Appear |
|
Discerning the Body of Christ is the very method by which the manifestation of the Sons of God takes place. The Body of Christ is not a club or an organization. It is a holy organism. As it is formed according to the pattern of Scripture with each member discerning the Christ in every other member, it grows into fullness. Each member sees Christ in every other member. They also discern the difference between a false ministry and a true ministry, a false gift and a true gift. They recognize true apostles and false apostles. They can see the difference between a false prophet and a true prophet. They can recognize the difference between a true teacher and a false teacher. Their senses have been exercised by reason of use.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons [Greek: teknon tek'-non, literally, little children] of God, and it doth not yet appear [Greek: phaneroo, literally, something hidden that is revealed] what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear [Greek: phaneroo, literally, something hidden that is revealed] , we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. The Bible often uses types and shadows in the natural to show us spiritual truths. Sometimes, God gives us the interpretation of the word. In the case of the word, veil, there is a Scripture that says, "the veil, that is to say, his flesh." From this, and other reference to the redemption of our bodies and the manifestation of the sons of God, we can see that there is a removal of our fleshly nature somewhere in God's time table. 1 John 3:2 really says that now, we are the immature children of God, and what we shall be has not yet been unveiled, the flesh has not been taken away to reveal it. But when Christ is unveiled, when the flesh is taken away to reveal Christ, we shall see Him as He is, and we shall be changed to be like Him. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says that we all, with unveiled (the veil is the flesh) face beholding as in a mirror, we see reality concerning those who have been created in the image of God and we see the glory of the Lord, then we are transfigured into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
