Judges

The revelation that God has given to the apostles, the testimony of the Holy Spirit through Scripture itself, the testimony of the Holy Spirit in the heart of every follower of Christ, rational (sane) thought, scientific method, and any other measure other than the creative rationalizations (insane stories) of the skeptics, all confirm the historical, material, and spiritual accuracy of every part of Scripture from the very beginning of Genesis to the very end of Revelation.

Israel is put into bondage six times.  God uses judges both to rule the people and to deliver them.  There is much in this book about the pattern of the Kingdom of God.

1. Joshua is dead--Judah and Simeon take Jerusalem--other cities captured--territory not captured

2. an angel rebukes the Israelites for not being true to God--Joshua dies--Israel serves false gods

3. God leaves nations to be a thorn to Israel because of their idolatry--Israel delivered by the first judge, Othneil--judge Ehud delivers--judge Shamgar delivers

4. Deborah and Barak--Canaanites overcome

5. the song of Deborah and Barak

6. Israel sins and is oppressed by Midean--the call of Gideon--the alter of Baal is destroyed--Gideon and the fleece sign

7. Gideon and 300 men defeat the Mideanite army (a typed of the manifestation of the sons of God)

8. Zebah and Zalmunna--Gideon as judge--40 years of peace--Gideon dies and Israel turns to sin

9. Abimelech deceives to make himself king--Jotham has a revelation--God sends an evil spirit to cause the fall of Shechem and Abimelech, returning their evil on their own heads

10. Tola, the judge--Jair, the judge--Israel does evil again and God judges with oppression from Philistines and Ammonites

11. Jephthah, the judge--Jephthah's foolish vow and foolish decision

12. Jepthah defeats Ephraim--Ibzan, the judge; Elon, the judge; Abdon, the judge

13. Israel again does evil and is oppressed by the Philistines--

14. Samson, the judge--God uses the sinful desire of Samson for Delilah--Samson's riddle and his Delilah's betrayal

15. Samson burns the crops of the Philistines and kills 1,000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey

16. Samson shares his weakness with Delilah: "How can you say you love me if you won't tell me?"--Delilah betrays Samson and cuts off his hair so the Spirit of God wasn't with him--the Philistines capture Samson and gouge out his eyes and imprison him--Samson's hair grows back in prison--Samson pulls down the supporting pillars of the building, killing 3,000 Philistines along with himself

17. Micah's personal idolatry

18. descendants of Dan seek an inheritance to live in and come to Micah's house--descendants of Dan take Micah's idol and priest and worshiped the idol

19. men of Benjamin rape the Levite's concubine resulting in her death--the Levite sends for help throughout the territory

20. the resolve to punish those who did this--Benjamin is defeated

21. mourning for the lost tribe of Benjamin--provision for the survival of the tribe--everyone doing what was right in his own eyes
