Why Would Anyone Reject The Holy Spirit?

Why would anyone reject God. Why would anyone reject the Holy Spirit?

Jeremiah 2:12-14 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.  For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.  Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

Why would the children of the King of kings live below their privilege? Because they listen to ungodly counsel. That ungodly counsel tells them that the power of God is a thing of the past. Ungodly counsel says that God does not speak. It says that God does not communicate with His people, and God's people need to try to figure out the Bible using their natural minds. (Of course, those minds are at enmity with God.)

Ungodly counsel says that God does not do miracles any more. It makes up all sorts of non-scriptural stories about the gifts of the Spirit. It rejects speaking in tongues or it distorts it. It says that the order of God's church is not important. The pattern of Scripture for the church is not important.

These are broken cisterns. If we memorize Bible verses and try to store them in broken cisterns, they will do us little good. We can end up like the Hebrews who could not even see the Scripture when they looked at the Scripture. They never heard a word from God. They only saw the veil of their own flesh. We need to be led of the Spirit when we read Scripture. We have a tendency to hold to our doctrines that we keep in those cisterns. We hold on so tightly that God can't teach us or lead us. We can become as unwilling as the Hebrew children were. But God says, “There's more.”

If you seek God, you will find Him through His Son, Jesus.

Revelations 22:19 And if anyone takes away from the Words of the Book of this prophecy, God will take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which have been written in this Book.

John 10:35b the Scripture cannot be broken,

Human theology and reasoning is not necessarily correct, but the Bible is. The Bible can only be understood by revelation, and revelation is given by the Spirit of God. God does reveal in His own way. But we only know in part. If we think we know any thing, we do not know it as we ought. We are instructed, by God, to keep seeking Him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. The truth sets us free. Lies bind us. Whoever seeks Jesus does find Him. Jesus is the truth.

We believe the Holy Scriptures teach:
  • The 5 apostolic ministries (Ephesians 4:11)
  • The nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)
  • Local congregations overseen by elders and deacons (Titus 1:5)
  • Every member having and being a ministry in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:11)
  • Being led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14)
  • The gathering together of the Body of Christ (Genesis 49:10, John 17:21)
