Bible Dictionary Definition of Adoption:When the Bible speaks of adoption, it is not referring to Western adoption but rather to Eastern Adoption. Eastern adoption is not the same as Western adoption. Eastern adoption is the placing of a mature son into a ruling position. The Greek word for adoption which is "huiothesia," literally means "the placing of a son." This form of adoption is closely associated with the Manifestation of the sons of God. The word, adoption, would be better translated as "placing of a mature son" in every case in the New Testament.
This Eastern form of adoption could not be given to any but a born son. You cannot be adopted into God's family in the Westen sense of adoption. You must be born into God's family by the blood of Jesus. And the Eastern form of adoption was reserved for those who were mature and ready to take a rulership position.
Romans 8:23 "And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body."
