Old-Earth Deception

If you have not read Stories Versus Truth, you may want to read that before reading this.

Examples of Old-Earth Deception

Those who believe in an old earth must do so using circular reasoning. There is certainly no conclusive evidence for an old earth. All dating methods require the use of circular reasoning. That is, they require assumptions. If we change the assumptions, then we change the supposed age of whatever we are trying to test. This is the reason that scientific method is not suited to telling us the age of the Earth or of the Universe. Dr. Humphreys points out that, because of relativity (Einstein's Theory) the age of the Universe and the age of the Earth may vary depending where you put the clock. (Read more here).

We are not dogmatically claiming to know that the Earth is 6,000 years old. We know that God created the Heavens and the Earth in six days and we know the number of generations between Adam and Christ. That's about it. Even though a plain reading of Scripture seems to indicate a young Earth, we can't even deny the possibility that God could have done something that Scripture doesn't hint at and that has left no scientific evidence. It is possible. It just is not worth the time to think about it.

There are young-Earth theories of some scientists and old-Earth theories of other scientists. Since all of these theories are concerned with the past rather than the present, they all involve either divine revelation or presuppositions/assumptions. These scientists, whether young Earth or old Earth, all look at the same observed facts of science but come to different conclusions based on their revelation or presuppositions/assumptions. Old Earth scientists assume that the flood of Noah never happened as the Bible says that it did. And they make many other such assumptions to come up with their calculated ages. Though they may seem very sure of themselves, it should be understood that their calculations can be no more valid than their assumptions. And you might be asking yourself right now, "How valid can an assumption really be?"

"So, what should we do if a geological interpretation doesn’t fit with the Bible? Question the geological interpretation! Often we will need to re-examine the evidence directly. Frequently, even the ‘facts’ reported in geological books are not facts, but interpretations. When we carefully observe the evidence directly, and interpret it starting from the true history given in the Bible, we can confidently expect to find that the evidence fits the truth of the Bible, God’s infallible revealed Word." https://creation.com/shifting-sands This quote is an understatement. Often geological books are filled with misrepresentations. They embrace a fabricated story that is based on arbitrary assumptions and call these stories and assumptions, "facts." That is outright deception, and many people are being fooled into believing in these lies.

In a society where Naturalism is one of the most prevalent of all religions, revelation may seem out of place. It is not. God is real. Contrary to Naturalistic dogma, God does things. God speaks. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Whenever Scripture is read, God speaks through it. All Scripture is God-breathed. When you read the following, you are hearing the voice of God: Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day." This is real authority. What does it actually say--without any theological interpretation or rationalization? You can actually pray that God would show you what this Scripture means. (some caveats about hearing God's Voice)

The doctrine of an old Earth is a dogma of Atheism. Some, but not all, Christians who have followed such teachings have also found themselves living as if they were Atheists, accepting the axioms of Naturalism, Materialism, and Uniformitarianism. These three axioms are simply assumptions. They have no basis. Some have claimed that these are self-evident. What makes them self-evident? The "theory" of evolution?

Many Christians have lost their faith because of speculations regarding the age of the earth. These speculations usually put death before sin, eliminate the world-wide flood and replace it with millions of years, and eliminate the creation and replace it with billions of years. If death is before sin, then sin does not cause death. If sin does not cause death, that destroys the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel says that death is an enemy to be eventually destroyed by Christ. The Gospel says that sin caused death and the obedience of Christ has reversed the process.

There are many examples of the kinds of deception used to sell the idea of an old Earth. "The Green River Formation, a sedimentary feature of Wyoming and northern Colorado, is widely recognized for its high quality fossils of fish and other creatures. It has been dated at 40 million years and older. There is a huge problem with these dates. There is original soft tissue fossils being found encased in its rock. That would be impossible if the 40 million year date is correct. A new study showed that a "fossilized" lizard leg found in the formation is not made up of minerals, but instead still has the original skin and connective tissue." source This is but one of many such finds. An honest scientist would question the methods for coming up with those dates, but that would be the end of that scientist's career in the present anti-Christian-biased "scientific" world.

Deception is common among Atheists, as would be expected. When they refused to allow God into their thinking, God turned them over to a reprobate mind. God reveals this to us in Romans 1 of the Bible. For an Atheist, why should truth exist? Of course, there is the political expediency, don't get caught. There also may be some internal learning from being raised in what is left of a Christian worldview. However, there is no logical reason for an Atheist to tell the truth. If there were such a reason, what would it be? If anyone proposes one, I will surely post it here. It is a wonder that Christians would listen to such ungodly counsel, though.

However, we don't need to use assumption or presupposition as our starting point for reason.  Assumption and presupposition are arbitrary.  What is arbitrary is not rational.  What is an alternative to such irrational thinking?  Revelation.  God reveals Himself and He reveals much about His creation.  A lot is revealed through the Bible itself.  Chart explaining how time from the Creation to the present can be calculated using Scripture?

There is plenty of evidence for a young Earth and a recent creation:
