1 My little children, I write these things to you so that you do not wander from the path. And if anyone wanders from the path, we have One Who pleads our cause next to the Father, Jesus Christ Whose way of thinking, feeling, and acting is wholly conformed to the Will of God, and Who therefore needs no purification in the innermost mind or life.
2 And He is the reconciliation to God and appeasement of the wrath of God for our wanderings from the path that leads to the absolute and genuine Life, and not for our wanderings only, but also for the wanderings of the whole world.
3 And by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 Whoever says, "I know Him," and does NOT keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in them.
5 But whoever keeps His Utterance, the love of God is truly complete in this one; by this we know that we are in Him.
6 Those who say they abide in Him ought, themselves, also so to walk just as He walked.
7 Fellow believers, I write no new commandment to you but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Utterance which you have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, I write a new commandment to you which is true in Him and in you because the darkness is past, and the true Light now appears.
9 Those who say they are in the light, but hate their fellow believer, are in darkness to this moment.
10 Those who love their fellow believer abide in the Light, and there is nothing in them that traps others into being drawn into error or causing them to wander from the path that leads to the absolute fullness of Life.
11 But those who hate their fellow believer are in darkness and walk in darkness and do not know where they go because darkness has blinded their eyes.
12 I write to you, little children, because your wanderings from the path have been sent away from you for His Name's sake.
13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him Who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him Who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Utterance of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.
15 Do not love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. *
17 And the world passes away and the desire, but whoever does the will of God remains into the coming age.
18 Little children, it is the last time, and as you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; by which we know that it is the last time.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made visible that they were not all of us.
20 But you have an Anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
21 I have not written to you because you know not the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Mature Son.
23 Whoever denies the Mature Son, the same has not the Father: (but) he who acknowledges the Mature Son has the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Mature Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that He has promised us, even the genuine and absolute fullness of life of the Kingdom Age.
26 These things have I written to you concerning those who seduce you.
27 But the Anointing which you have received of Him abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same Anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him. * *
28 And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall be visible, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His abiding presence. *
29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does righteousness is born of Him.

Young's Literal

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, [even] eternal life.
26 These [things] have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

King James Version

1 My little children, these things I write to you, that ye may not sin: and if any one may sin, an advocate we have with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one,
2 and he -- he is a propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world,
3 and in this we know that we have known him, if his commands we may keep;
4 he who is saying, 'I have known him,' and his command is not keeping, a liar he is, and in him the truth is not;
5 and whoever may keep his word, truly in him the love of God hath been perfected; in this we know that in him we are.
6 He who is saying in him he doth remain, ought according as he walked also himself so to walk.
7 Brethren, a new command I write not to you, but an old command, that ye had from the beginning -- the old command is the word that ye heard from the beginning;
8 again, a new command I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness doth pass away, and the true light doth now shine;
9 he who is saying, in the light he is, and his brother is hating, in the darkness he is till now;
10 he who is loving his brother, in the light he doth remain, and a stumbling-block in him there is not;
11 and he who is hating his brother, in the darkness he is, and in the darkness he doth walk, and he hath not known whither he doth go, because the darkness did blind his eyes.
12 I write to you, little children, because the sins have been forgiven you through his name;
13 I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil. I write to you, little youths, because ye have known the Father:
14 I did write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I did write to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God in you doth remain, and ye have overcome the evil.
15 Love not ye the world, nor the things in the world; if any one doth love the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
16 because all that [is] in the world -- the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of the life -- is not of the Father, but of the world,
17 and the world doth pass away, and the desire of it, and he who is doing the will of God, he doth remain -- to the age.
18 Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many -- whence we know that it is the last hour;
19 out of us they went forth, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but -- that they might be manifested that they are not all of us.
20 And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and have known all things;
21 I did not write to you because ye have not known the truth, but because ye have known it, and because no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is the liar, except he who is denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son;
23 every one who is denying the Son, neither hath he the Father, [he who is confessing the Son hath the Father also.]
24 Ye, then, that which ye heard from the beginning, in you let it remain; if in you may remain that which from the beginning ye did hear, ye also in the Son and in the Father shall remain,
25 and this is the promise that He did promise us -- the life the age-during.
26 These things I did write to you concerning those leading you astray;
27 and you, the anointing that ye did receive from him, in you it doth remain, and ye have no need that any one may teach you, but as the same anointing doth teach you concerning all, and is true, and is not a lie, and even as was taught you, ye shall remain in him.
28 And now, little children, remain in him, that when he may be manifested, we may have boldness, and may not be ashamed before him, in his presence;
29 if ye know that he is righteous, know ye that every one doing the righteousness, of him hath been begotten.
