kerusso |
There is no one-word translation that really carries the meaning of kerusso. It could be translated as any of the following:
Kerusso is often translated as preach, publish, proclaim. It is proclaiming with authority; This is not just learning to speak AS IF one had authority but HAVING real authority, that is, imparting Christ through proclamation. This proclamation is more than giving wonderful, entertaining, intellectually stimulating, exciting sermons. These are Utterances of God through people who are yielding to God. The person is just the conduit. Such proclamations have power to transform and transfigure. The essence of God, the essence of Christ, is contained in the utterance. By the context of how kerusso is used in the New Testament, we can see that this isn't a kind of preaching that proceeds from human reasoning. It is the Utterance of Christ that is spoken by the Holy Spirit and contains the Power and Presence of Christ Himself. This is not simply explaining the meaning of Scripture or giving opinions about it. This is an impartation of Christ through the utterance. In fact, it is Christ speaking through the speaker or through the writer and imparting Himself to the hearer or the reader. Christ is always present when Scripture is read. All Scripture is God-breathed, both when it was written and whenever it is quoted, read, or brought to mind. You cannot read Scripture without hearing God's Utterance. However, it is possible to hear and fail to acknowledge, as 2 Corinthians 3: ![]()
