Some people think that they can make up anything they like and then call it faith--then they think that God has to honor that.  There is a saying about this: "If you can conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it."  This is a lie.  Jesus is the author and finisher of any real faith, and faith comes by hearing, but only one type of hearing, hearing the word, or utterance, of God.  Rationalized faith is worthless.  Faith has its basis in what God says.

The Bible tells us that all good and spiritually mature wisdom, knowledge, and understanding comes from God.  There are, of course, different definitions for the word wisdom.  Some people simply mean a collection of experience that allows us to plan and execute a number to tasks. There is an evil kind of wisdom that is devilish.  There is a totally different type of wisdom that comes from God in a flowing stream.  Similar things could be said regarding knowledge, understanding, faith, hope, love, joy, peace, patience, power, and many other gifts.

  Sometimes we refuse to listen, so there is a lot of variation in the awareness and ability to conform to God.  When a person decides to follow Jesus, they are deciding to receive God's leading and they are deciding to allow God to do His work through them.  They hear the voice of Christ and do what He says to do.  It's obvious that Christians don't always do that.  Christians-in-name-only never do it.  A Christian is able to access the grace of God.Grace is a free gift that Jesus paid for, and in is all that is needed for success in any endeavor.  Righteousness is by grace through faith. 

I can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13).  Without Him, I can do nothing (John 15:5).  Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it (Psalm 127:1)
