| Leaf & Wind |
There is an example of submission to the Holy Spirit in the creation. Compare the shape and stucture of a leaf to faith, and the wind to grace. The word, "grace," means free gift, and the Holy Spirit is the free gift of God to us. Think of when you saw a leaf in the wind. How much of the leaf's will was involved in the movement of that leaf? None! The shape and structure of the leaf allow the wind to move the leaf in the same way that faith allows us to yield to God's grace, His Holy Spirit. The leaf flies wherever the wind takes it. The wind can carry it because the leaf is submissive and yields itself to the wind. As the wind moves the leaf, so the free gift of the Holy Spirit, grace, moves the person who is submissive to the Spirit. A resistant person is like a stone. The same wind that touched the leaf also touched the stone. The stone, doesn't yield to the wind, just as a hard-hearted person doesn't yield to the Spirit of God. The stone just sits in the mud. That's why salvation is by grace and grace is through faith. faith gives us the ability to yield to the Spirit and open the door to Jesus who stands at the door and knocks.
