Argumentum Ex Culo

Logical Fallacy of Argumentum Ex Culo

Whenever a logical fallacy is committed, the fallacy has its roots in Agrippa's trilemma. All human thought (without Divine revelation) is based on one of three unhappy possibilities. These three possibilities are infinite regression, circular reasoning, or axiomatic thinking. This is known as Agrippa's trilemma. Some have claimed that only logic and math can be known; however, that is not true. Without Divine revelation, neither logic nor math can be known. Science is limited only to pragmatic thinking because of the weakness of human reasoning, which is known as Agrippa's trilemma. Argumentum ex culo, a form of axiomatic thinking, is one of these three unhappy possibilities.

The logical fallacy of argumentum ex culo occurs when someone uses any of the various forms of making things up or lying.

Examples of the Logical Fallacy of Argumentum Ex Culo

Sandy: "If there were a good God, then He wouldn't make a world that could have evil. There is evil in the world; therefore, a good God didn't create it."

Rocky: "How do you define good without God."

Sandy: "I just know what is good and what is not by feeling."

Sandy is just making it up. Without God and His revelation, it would be irrational to talk about good and bad. There would be no good or bad, just is. If someone murdered your family, you could not say anything was wrong about it.

Sandy: "There are plenty of errors in the Bible."

Rocky: "Let's talk about the one you consider the most powerful example of an error in the Bible then."

Sandy: "Well, I don't know of any off hand, but they are there."

Sandy is probably repeating something he heard, but it is still argumentum ex culo.
