The baptism of the Holy Spirit is Biblical and cannot be explained away. Speaking in tongues is real. The Scripture cannot be broken.

The Holy Spirit
Scripture speaks of two distinct types of tongues.
Liberalism rejects the power of the Holy Spirit

Mark 1:7 And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

Mark 1:8 I baptized you in water; But he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

John 1:29 On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

John 1:30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me.

John 1:31 And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water.

John 1:32 And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.

John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.

John 1:34 And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter [Greek: parakletos], that he may be with you for ever,

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I to you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate [Greek: parakletos] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:Rom 8:26 And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered;

Rom 8:27 and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,

Joh 14:17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Luk 24:49 And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

Act 1:4 and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:

Act 1:5 For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place.

Act 2:2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Act 2:3 And there appeared to them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 2:5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.

Act 2:6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.

Act 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

Act 2:16 but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

Act 2:17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

Act 2:18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

Act 2:19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:

Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day.

Act 2:21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Act 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;

Act 2:24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Act 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul to Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

Act 2:28 Thou madest known to me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.

Act 2:29 Brethren, I may say to you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

Act 2:30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;

Act 2:31 he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

Act 2:32 This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Act 2:35 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

Act 2:36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

Act 2:38-39 And Peter said to them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ to the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call to him.

Act 8:14-15 Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John: who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: Act 8:16 for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Act 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost associated with speaking in tongues

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,Act 19:4 And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Jesus.

Act 19:5 And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

Act 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Act 8:18 Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

1Co 14:18 I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all:

The unknown tongue

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not to men, but to God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1Co 14:4 He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

1Co 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jud 1:21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

The baptism of the Spirit is given so we can have the gifts of the Spirit.

1Co 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

1Co 12:2 Ye know that when ye were Gentiles ye were led away to those dumb idols, howsoever ye might led.

1Co 12:3 Wherefore I make known to you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema; and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit.

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1Co 12:5 And there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord.

1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of workings, but the same God, who worketh all things in all.

1Co 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal.

1Co 12:8 For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit:

1 Co 12:9 to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit;

1 Co 12:10 and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Co 12:11 but all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will.

1 Co 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.

The gifts of the Spirit are given so we can bear the fruit of the Spirit

We have a tremendous need for the Spirit of God to permeate every fiber of our being. A. Wagar

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Gal 5:23 meekness, self-control; against such there is no law.

Rom 5:5 and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given to us.

2Ti 1:7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.

1Jo 4:18 There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.

1Co 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal.

2Co 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

Rom 15:16 that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning to salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

1Pe 1:2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

1Co 2:10 But to us God revealed them through the Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

1Co 2:11 For who among men knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the things of God none knoweth, save the Spirit of God.

1Co 2:12 But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.

1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth; combining spiritual things with spiritual words.

1Co 2:14 Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he himself is judged of no man.

1Co 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Mat 5:6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Luk 11:9 And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

Luk 11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Gal 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Gal 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
