The Land of Nod

If you have not read Stories Versus Truth, you may want to read that before reading this.

Someone may ask you the following: "Where did all the people in the land of Nod come from?"

This question is connected to a whole bunch of questions that could be asked if we were to assume several things about the following verse:

"And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch: and he built a city, and he called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch."

These assumptions are based in ignorance and a desire to see something in the text that is not there.

Assumption #1: There were people in the land of Nod.  (The Bible does not say that there are people there.)
Assumption #2: Cain got a wife from the land of Nod.  (The Bible does not say that he did get his wife from the land of Nod.)
Assumption #3: The city is translated correctly.  (In the original Hebrew before translation the literal meaning is, "encampment.")
Assumption #4: The period between the birth of Cain and the death of Able was less than 130 years.  (The likelyhood is that there would have been many generations of people at that time, and given their superior intellect and physical ability, families would have been large since God had commanded them to fill the earth.)

From these assumptions mixed with a little ignorance, some people try to manufacture a conflict between the history in the Bible and what could have been possible.  Of course, since their thinking is all fabrication, their argument falls flat.

We were always right to believe what God has told us.  The Bible is His Utterance and He speaks to us through it.
