Argument to Veneration

Logical Fallacy of Argument to Veneration / Appeal to Respect

The Logical Fallacy of Argument to Veneration / Appeal to Respect occurs when respect for a person or a group is the reason to believe a proposition.

Examples of the Logical Fallacy of Argument to Veneration / Appeal to Respect

A blog post: "More respect for science would hopefully translate into kicking some of the climate change deniers OUT of Congress."

That doesn't prove climate change (modified from "global warming" for obvious reasons). Perhaps the writer is trying to imply that climate change is science. He wants respect for climate change.

A blog post: "A little respect for science would be in order."

This time, the Big-Bang-Billions-of-Years-No-Flood-Molecules-to-Man story is the definition of "science." This is persuasive definition and an argument from veneration. "Don't demand proof. Just show reverence to this opinion."
