There is a law of sowing and reaping. It goes like this:

1. You reap what you sow.
2. You reap later than you sow.
3. You reap more than you sow.

This is true in the natural and in the spiritual realm.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Hosea 8:7For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

Here, the metaphor that God uses is that of good seed and bad seed. There is bad seed that will bring you into unholiness. There is good seed that will grow up into the fruit of the Spirit and holiness. If a Christian continues in willing sin, that Christian will not be able to walk in holiness. Many have tried to fool God, but God cannot be deceived. He knows the intents of the heart of every person.

The way to sow to the Spirit is to pay attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that faith comes and then let faith open the door to the free gift of righteousnes that flows from the throne of God and do not oppose God while He does is works through you, says His words through you, and thinks His thoughts through you. Everything else is sowing to the flesh. The Holy Spirit will never lead you into disorder, impurity, sin, ways that are contrary to Scripture, or any other such thing. In fact, the Holy Spirit will put a check in your heart whenever you consider walking in a way that isn't right.
