1 And after six days Jesus takes Peter, James, and John his brother and brings them up into a high mountain away from everyone
2 and was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the Sun, and His clothing was white as if emitting light.
3 And, look, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with Him.
4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You will, let us make three tabernacles here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah.
5  While he was yet speaking, look, a bright cloud enveloped them, and, look, a Voice out of the cloud, Which said, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him.  *
6 And, when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them and said, "Get up and don't  afraid."
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus by Himself.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man is risen from the dead.
10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
11 And Jesus answered them, saying, "Elijah truly shall come first and restore all things.
12 But I say to you that Elias has already come, and they didn't know him but have done to him whatever they desired. In the same way the Son of man will also suffer under them.
13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.
14 And when they had come to the crowd, a certain man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,
15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffering in misery, for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
16 and I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him."
17 Then Jesus answered, saying, "Oh faithless and corrupt generation, how long will I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me."
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil, and it came out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
20 And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief, for truly I say to you that, if you have supernatural belief and trust as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there.' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.
21 However that may be, this kind of evil spirit doesn't come out except by prayer and fasting."
22 And while they stayed in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of man will be betrayed into the hands of men,
23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised again."  And they were very sad.
24 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who received tribute money came to Peter and said, "Doesn't your master pay tribute?"
25 Peter said, "Yes."  And when he had come into the house, Jesus came before him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the Earth take custom or tribute? From their own children, or from strangers?"
26 Peter said to Him, "From strangers."  Jesus said to him, "Then the children are free."
27 However, just so we don't offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take up the first fish that comes up, and when you have opened his mouth, you will find a piece of money.  Take that and give it to them for Me and for you.

5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a [certain] man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute [money] came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

King James Version

1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and doth bring them up to a high mount by themselves,
2 and he was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun, and his garments did become white as the light,
3 and lo, appear to them did Moses and Elijah, talking together with him.
4 And Peter answering said to Jesus, 'Sir, it is good to us to be here; if thou wilt, we may make here three booths -- for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elijah.'
5 While he is yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, 'This is My Son, -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight; hear him.'
6 And the disciples having heard, did fall upon their face, and were exceedingly afraid,
7 and Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, 'Rise, be not afraid,'
8 and having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.
9 And as they are coming down from the mount, Jesus charged them, saying, 'Say to no one the vision, till the Son of Man out of the dead may rise.'
10 And his disciples questioned him, saying, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first?'
11 And Jesus answering said to them, 'Elijah doth indeed come first, and shall restore all things,
12 and I say to you -- Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.'
13 Then understood the disciples that concerning John the Baptist he spake to them.
14 And when they came unto the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him,
15 and saying, 'Sir, deal kindly with my son, for he is lunatic, and doth suffer miserably, for often he doth fall into the fire, and often into the water,
16 and I brought him near to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.'
17 And Jesus answering said, 'O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I bear you? bring him to me hither;'
18 and Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the lad was healed from that hour.
19 Then the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, 'Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?'
20 And Jesus said to them, 'Through your want of faith; for verily I say to you, if ye may have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mount, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you,
21 and this kind doth not go forth except in prayer and fasting.'
22 And while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men,
23 and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise,' and they were exceeding sorry.
24 And they having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachms came near to Peter, and said, 'Your teacher -- doth he not pay the didrachms?' He saith, 'Yes.'
25 And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, 'What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth -- from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? from their sons or from the strangers?'
26 Peter saith to him, 'From the strangers.' Jesus said to him, 'Then are the sons free;
27 but, that we may not cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and the fish that hath come up first take thou up, and having opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater, that having taken, give to them for me and thee.'
