Matthew 7

You are here: Bible > Matt > Matthew 7

1 Don't condemn lest you be condemned.
2 For with whatever condemnation you condemn others, you shall be condemned, and with whatever standard you measure out to others, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why do you look at the twig that is in your brother's or sister's eye but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?
4 Or how will you say to your brother or sister, 'Let me pull the twig out of your eye when a beam is in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first extract the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to extract the twig out of your brother's or sister's eye.
6 Don't give that which is holy to the dogs.  Don't throw your pearls before swine, or they may trample them under their feet and turn again and tear you to pieces.
7 Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you:
8 For everyone who asks receives, and whoever seeks finds, and to whoever knocks, it shall be opened. *
9 Or what person is there of you whom, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father Who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him? *
12 Therefore whatever you desire that people would do for you, do you also the same for them, for this is the law and the prophets.
13 Enter in at the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads into destruction, and there are many who go in there:
14 Because narrow is the gate and contracted is the way that leads into genuine and absolute fullness of life and there are few who find it. *
15 Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are predatory wolves.
16 You shall know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?
17 In this way every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth bad fruit.  A bad tree cannot produce good fruit.
19 Every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.
20 Therefore it is by their fruits that you shall know them. *
21 Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever does the will of My Father Who is in Heaven.
22 In that day, many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' haven't we prophesied in Your Name? And cast out devils in Your Name? And done many wonderful works in Your Name?
23 And then I will declare openly to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who work lawlessness. *
24 Therefore whoever hears these utterances of Mine, and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house on a rock,
25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house, and it didn't fall, for it's foundation was on a rock.
26 And everyone who hears these utterances of Mine, and doesn't do them shall be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand,
27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it." *
28 When Jesus had ended these utterances, the people were astonished at His doctrine,
29 for He taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.

King James Version (KJV)
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither [can] a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as the scribes.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 'Judge not, that ye may not be judged,
2 for in what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, and in what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you.
3 'And why dost thou behold the mote that [is] in thy brother's eye, and the beam that [is] in thine own eye dost not consider?
4 or, how wilt thou say to thy brother, Suffer I may cast out the mote from thine eye, and lo, the beam [is] in thine own eye?
5 Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6 'Ye may not give that which is [holy] to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, that they may not trample them among their feet, and having turned -- may rend you.
7 'Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
8 for every one who is asking doth receive, and he who is seeking doth find, and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.
9 'Or what man is of you, of whom, if his son may ask a loaf -- a stone will he present to him?
10 and if a fish he may ask -- a serpent will he present to him?
11 if, therefore, ye being evil, have known good gifts to give to your children, how much more shall your Father who [is] in the heavens give good things to those asking him?
12 'All things, therefore, whatever ye may will that men may be doing to you, so also do to them, for this is the law and the prophets.
13 'Go ye in through the strait gate, because wide [is] the gate, and broad the way that is leading to the destruction, and many are those going in through it;
14 how strait [is] the gate, and compressed the way that is leading to the life, and few are those finding it!
15 'But, take heed of the false prophets, who come unto you in sheep's clothing, and inwardly are ravening wolves.
16 From their fruits ye shall know them; do [men] gather from thorns grapes? or from thistles figs?
17 so every good tree doth yield good fruits, but the bad tree doth yield evil fruits.
18 A good tree is not able to yield evil fruits, nor a bad tree to yield good fruits.
19 Every tree not yielding good fruit is cut down and is cast to fire:
20 therefore from their fruits ye shall know them.
21 'Not every one who is saying to me Lord, lord, shall come into the reign of the heavens; but he who is doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, lord, have we not in thy name prophesied? and in thy name cast out demons? and in thy name done many mighty things?
23 and then I will acknowledge to them, that -- I never knew you, depart from me ye who are working lawlessness.
24 'Therefore, every one who doth hear of me these words, and doth do them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock;
25 and the rain did descend, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell not, for it had been founded on the rock.
26 'And every one who is hearing of me these words, and is not doing them, shall be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;
27 and the rain did descend, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.'
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus ended these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching,
29 for he was teaching them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
