Emergent

While the Emergent "Church" is based on the mental construct known as relativism, Christianity is based on Jesus Christ, the Living Christ, Who reveals Himself to the Christian on an ongoing basis.  Believer's have the supernatural trust that is a gift from God.  By this trust, we see Jesus and hear His Voice.  It is Jesus Himself who reveals to us that the Bible is His Word, His Utterance.  And it is Jesus Himself Who speaks to us through His Word.   Jesus speaks to us through many different means: Scripture, intuition, bringing Scripture to our remembrance, apostles, prophets, etc.  When God speaks to us, faith comes and with faith comes a vision of hope.  This vision shows us who we are in Christ in an ever-more-clear understanding.  When God speaks, He instructs us what to think, what to say, and what to do.  Then, He does the work through us by His grace, His free gift of righteousness.  This righteousness of God in us is the moving of the Holy Spirit that transfigures us from glory to glory to be like Jesus, killing our fleshly nature and causing Christ to be more fully formed in us.  And this death to self, to the old adamic sin nature, and building up of Christ is the very thing that redeems us, sets us free from slavery to the fleshly nature, to Satan, to the pressures of the world, and to death. (some caveats about hearing God's Voice)

Basics of Emergent Church

Synonyms for The Emergent "Church" are as follows: Relativism, Emergents, Unitarianism

The Emergents make the following dogmatic claims:

1. Postmodernism is absolutely right and every other opinion is absolutely wrong.

The Church has been culture bound.  (This is true, but the emergents change one cultural bondage for a more entangled cultural bondage.)

2. Any doctrine or moral standard can be questioned.  (Everything that God has said has been questioned since Satan tempted Eve with the words, "Hath God said... ?")

3. No one has a foundation for truth.  (The reality is that Jesus does have foundation for absolute truth.  In fact, Jesus is the foundation.)

4. We must reexamine and question every belief and practice in the Church.  (This would be an excellent idea if we seek the Lord, Jesus, Christ for revelation and study the Scripture.  However, this is not what Emergents have in mind.)

5. Emergents falsely claim that Biblical Christianity is modernism.  (This, of course, is false.  Modernism was Satan's first attack against Jesus Christ.  Post Modernism is the following attack against Jesus Christ.)

Emergents seek to capture a sacred feeling without ever touching the real Jesus.

(Emergents reveal a hypocrisy when they ask that everyone behave in a kind and open-minded manner toward them while they refuse to be open minded toward the Holy Ghost and the teachings of the Bible.  They set up little rules in any way they like, but they should realize that postmodern relativism is self-refuting.)

6. Emergents claim that their ultimate goal is to make the world a better place.  The Emerging movement envisions a utopia in which the oppressed of the world are free, the poor are no longer impoverished and the environment is clean.  (If Emergents have the misfortune of receiving the power to create their humanistic utopia, it will follow the course of all the utopias of Hitler, Stalin, and many others.)

7. Unlike True Christianity, Emergent "Church" defines the human mind as basically good and capable of generating knowledge without the benefit of observation or revelation.  This self-generated knowledge is superior or equal to divine revelation, observation or both.

One of several related cults that work in concert: Agnosticism, Atheism, Evolutionism, Humanism, Intellectualism, Liberalism, Materialism, Modernism, Naturalism, Post Modernism, Rationalism, Relativism, and Secularism.

1. True Christianity is the antithesis of Postmodernism.  Nothing is relative.  All that God has revealed is absolute.  On the other hand, if any person thinks that he or she knows anything, that person does not know as they ought to know.  In other words, we must all be open to allowing God to reveal more of His way and His word to us no matter how much we may think that we know.  And those doctrines that we seem to think we know, those can be the greatest hindrances to our walk if we will not yield them to God when He wants to teach us His ways more completely.  Part of the truth is not the truth.  God is the mover on truth--truth is revealed as God reveals it, not as humanity tries to discover it.  Revelation is (literally in Scripture) the pulling back of the veil.  The veil is the fleshly nature which filters our experience of life and gives us a false impression of reality.  The flesh is removed by the process of listening to God's voice in all the ways the God speaks: the Bible, prophecy, a word of wisdom, a word of knowledge, visions, dreams, the conscience, creation, or any other means that God chooses to use.  God never contradicts Himself.  No other word from God by any other means could possibly conflict with the Bible-that is, if it is truly a word from God.  Just because a teaching does not conflict directly with the Bible does not confirm that it is a word from God.  The human mind is very creative, deceitful, and desperately wicked.  Faith comes by hearing an utterance from God.  Once the faith of God has been received, it gives access into God's grace (free gift/unmerited favor).  God's grace flows as the Christian yields to God's grace.  Grace includes forgiveness for sin and freedom from sin.  Freedom from sin is righteousness.  Righteousness is a free gift, not something to work to accomplish.  It is something to receive and yield to.  Looking at this another way, freedom from sin can be summarized in one word, love.  God is love.  When God gives us His free gift of righteousness, He is giving us of Himself.  When we yield, then God thinks His righteousness, speaks His righteousness, and does His righteousness through us.  This is what plants holy seed into our hearts, and it is also what causes our sin nature to die as we yield to His Spirit.  As we learn to lean on Him and yield to Him, our spiritual senses are made more keen.  We can discern the difference between the voice of God and the voice of our own wicked nature.  This is not an instant transformation, but it is, as the Bible says, from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.  No amount of self-effort could ever accomplish what the Holy Spirit is doing.  None of this takes place in any separation from the Body of Christ.  It is a progressive cleansing that is taking place in the Body of Christ, removing forms, programs, rituals, and anything that is not part of the pattern so carefully laid out in Scripture.  It is also a maturing, restoring all the elements of the pattern of the Bible that have been lost through the fleshly ways of the Church in the past.  This is the way of faith.  Whatever is not of faith is sin.  It is sin that separates us from God and dims our spiritual senses to truth.

2. When God questions us and our doctrine, we need to respond to Him.  God is continually progressive in unfolding His revelation.  If something is not according to Scripture, God will make it plain if we draw close to Him.  The office of apostle is specifically given to the Church to receive the revelation of truth.  It is an unfolding revelation.  This is true.  However, it will never conflict with what is plainly written in Scripture.

3. Jesus is the foundation.  God reveals to His apostles and prophets.  There are counterfeits of the genuine and there always have been counterfeits.  Satan calls counterfeits.  At the same time, God has restored the office of apostle and the ministry of prophet to the Church.

4. In Christ, there is unfolding revelation that will reveal those areas of belief and practice where we have wandered from the Scriptural pattern.  While this is not what this Emergent anti-Christ movement is about, it would be a good thing for Christians everywhere to seek God that He reveal, from the Bible, His holy pattern and to convict our hearts so we turn from any variation from that pattern.

5. Modernism was devised by Satan as an attempt to disprove the existence of God by circular reasoning.  It assumes Materialism, Naturalism, and Uniformitarianism and declares these three lies to be self-evident axioms of science.  These three lies are a denial of the existance of God and the works of God.  Modernism then attempts to use those axioms to declare that God does not exist.  That is circular.  Much of what is called the Church has followed this beast, but there is a called out company that has not gone there.  You can see how the Church has been influenced by Modernism: sexual immorality, evolution, old earth mythology, Naturalism (failure to believe in God's miraculous power for today), and many other traits of Modernism.

6. True Christianity seeks to draw close to God so that God can reveal His precepts from Scripture. True Christianity moves from glory to glory.  The path of the just is as a shining light that keeps growing brighter until God's work is totally complete in them.  The true Christian does not try to turn the secular government into the Church.  True Christianity does not invest useless effort into this dying eon but fulfills the will of God while in the present eon.  Whether helping the poor, going to work, or voting for a candidate in an election, the true Christian is led by the Spirit of God, walking by faith, flowing with grace, and the love of God is shed abroad in the heart of the true Christian by the Holy Ghost.

Some Christians have inserted elements of Emergent "Church" doctrine into their walk with Jesus.  They tried to make it compatible with Christ.  They may have done this as an act of rebellion against God or by simply not paying attention to the way that they were drifting.  The little changes, however, caused these followers of Christ to stop following Christ and instead they began following Emergent lies.  If they ever had any maturity in Christ, they lost it and reverted back to being spiritual babies in Christ with no discernment.  Many lose their faith altogether and join those who oppose Jesus.

God's plan for this hour is not to make all religions and philosophies get along. His plan is to have a people, a remnant company, who continue to discover Him, to walk with Him until they come into perfect unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to one totally complete man (the Body of Christ and the Head, Jesus), to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

In contrast to Emergent Church, followers of Christ receive Jesus Christ as the only Creator of the Universe, the God Who created them and their only Savior from bondage to sin. At the same time His love for those who have been deceived by Emergent Church compels God to speak to them daily through His creation and through other means; they will not listen to Him. You know that you were created for more than you are experiencing. If you continue to think like you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. Is it enough? Read more. Read even more.

Emergent Church's Worldview of a Supreme Being

1. Rather than recognizing God as supreme, Emergent "Church" makes each individual the supreme being in his or her own mind.

2. Emergent "Church" proponents tend to feel that God could not possibly reveal Himself or anything else to human beings.

Emergent Church's Worldview of Jesus

Emergent "Church" makes the human mind superior to Jesus, but the mind may also have a rationalized faith in the person of Jesus as described in the Bible.  The mind can rationalize that the Bible is good and true, but not having a real relationship with Jesus, this will simply be the dead letter.  "The letter killeth"  2 Corinthians 3:6   The mind can also rationalize away God, Jesus, the Bible and anything else.

Emergent Church's Worldview of the Works of Jesus

Emergent "Church" can go anywhere with the work of Jesus.  Since the Emergent "Church" operates according to Rationalism and Relativism, they have complete latitude.  The Bible and Holy Spirit are not their guide.  The deceitfully wicked carnal mind is their guide.

Emergent Church's Worldview of Authority

The authority of Emergent "Church" is usually the human mind and the imagination of each person.  Often this takes the form of reverence to the Bible as it is interpreted by the human mind, which gives the human mind the final say as to what is being said.  Emergent "Church", in a similar way, recognizes the creation as it is revealed or interpreted by the human mind.  And Emergent "Church" recognizes the writings and teachings of respected people as revealed or interpreted by the human mind.

Emergent "Church" can counterfeit the work of the Holy Spirit and may claim revelation status for the newly-built theological system.  While God can give visions and dreams, many claim they have a revelation, when they really only have something they have dreamt up, visions out of their own minds.  Emergent "Church" has crept into the church and rationalized doctrines are placed side-by-side with the revealed Word as equal to it.

Emergent Church's Worldview of a Humanity

Emergent "Church" says that the mind of man is basically good.  Under Emergent "Church", this view can be held at the same time that the opposite view is held by the same person.

Emergent Church's Worldview of the Human Problem

The rationalistic view of the human problem can take many forms.  The view may be anything, including some creative variation from the Christian view of sin.  Since Emergent "Church" can make up anything, it may say that there is no such thing as sin.  Through Emergent "Church", many are now saying the Jesus Christ is the problem.  Others are saying that those who follow Jesus are the problem.  Whatever Emergent "Church" comes up with, it is generated from the mind that is enmity against God and it will always get it wrong.
Emergent Church's Worldview of the Solution to the Human Problem

The ultimate goal is to make the world a better place.  The Emerging Church movement envisions a utopia in which the oppressed of the world are free, the poor are no longer impoverished and the environment is clean. This paradise is achieved through social activism. Many emergent leaders think it is selfish folly to live for the return of Christ.

Lord, protect us from such philosophies.

Most often, rationalized solutions consist of human efforts or some plan or system devised by the human intellect.  The human mind is corrupt and does not come up with God's solution.

Emergent Church's Worldview of Ethics, Values, and Morals

Interestingly, Emergents have quite an opinion on ethics.  They condemn those who follow Jesus and the Bible.  Emergents consider propositional truth a "modern" (and thus outmoded) fascination.  This is a self-refuting dogma.  If propositional truth is outmoded, then the propositional statement that "propositional truth is outmoded" is also outmoded and invalid.  Emergents have just argued against themselves.

Emergent ethics are rationalized.  They are generated by the imagination of each person.  Each Emergent may accept or reject the rationalizations of others or accept or reject God's laws, but the Emergent sets the rules and conditions under which the ethical system will be accepted.  Most often, each Emergent will pick and chose from a variety of ethical systems to build a system they like.

Emergent "Church" can counterfeit the work of the Holy Spirit and may claim revelation status for the newly-built ethical system.

Emergent Church's Worldview of Judgment

Emergents do not believe in heaven and hell as defined in the Bible.

Agnostics should not be thought of as the enemy. The danger here is that many Christian organizations have adopted Atheistic dogmas into their own dogmas. Humanism is yet another synonym for Atheism.  Humanism dogmatically supposes  and preaches that there is no God other than humanity.  Humanists are Atheists. Atheism/Humanism is one of the most violent of all religions, and, like all religions, it claims to be peaceful. Intellectualism--as a cult:   Many people attribute god-like power to the intellect, and such attribution makes this form of intellectualism a cult.  The intellect is just one of God\'s marvelous creations.  When intellectualism begins to mean that the human mind is the source of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, intellectualism becomes idolatry and it is a cult.  The reality is that, since the fall, the intellect cannot be trusted.  We need the revelation that only...

Conservatism Is NOT the Opposite of Liberalism Did you ever feel as if it is hard to understand the meaning of liberal and conservative?  You know what each of these words, sort of.  At the same time, it's hard to say exactly what either word means.   Guess what?  Someone has been messing with your mind.  They have been re-defining these words and then using the various meanings to confuse you.  If...

If you have not read Stories Versus Truth, you may want to read that before reading this.   Mutation Questions & Answers What is the relationship of extinction to natural selection? Natural Selection Is Not \'Nature\'s Intelligence In a world where science has degenerated into shouting slogans, we hear all types of claims, many of them false.  Natural Selection claims to include the capability for creatures to generate various traits that improve their ability...

How Is Evolutionism Vital to Religion?   The Secular Humanist religion needs Evolution. The Atheist religion needs Evolution. Many religions embrace Evolutionism. Some depend on it. Any religion that accepts Evolutionism is choosing to believe the human mind or doctrines of demons rather than believing the Living God Who created all things. That\'s why the dogma of Evolution is so religiously defended and promoted--regardless of fact. Evolution needs an old earth (although...

How to Avoid Cults   You must come close to Jesus and get to know Him--this is the only place of safety. There is coming a deception so terrible that it would be impossible to avoid being deceived were it not for this one way. The only way to avoid being deceived is to get to know the real Son of God so well that you can tell when something is not from...

We know only what God has told us about the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the tree of life, and the Garden of Eden. I don\'t think that we have any revelation on what happened to the tree itself. We do know that, ever since partaking of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, mankind has been plagued with an over-active sense of what is right and...

Is It Unloving to Call a Cult a Cult? As the members of the Church of the Living God continue to walk away from His ways, the Bible becomes a very strange book to them. They see it as full of errors. One person wrote in: \"I am a fellow Christian but I believe that this website portrays to [one of the religions that worships spirit guides, that is, demons]...

People who follow Baha\'i rationalize that one God has revealed Himself through major world religions. Baha\'i rationalizes that the human soul is essentially good and that salvation and righteousness can be achieved through human effort. This self-righteousness is part of the cause of their frustration. As with all religions that emphasize human effort as the source of righteousness, the followers of Baha\'i are not able to fulfill true righteousness. One follower...

Agnostics should not be thought of as the enemy. As Christ had compassion on the masses, saying that they are like sheep without a shepherd, so we ought to look at the Agnostics with compassion and pity their empty lives that are so completely devoid of any real purpose or meaning. These are people who are crying out for meaning. Agnostics face a serious problem of meaninglessness. They may try...

The danger here is that many Christian organizations have adopted Atheistic dogmas into their own dogmas. Atheism is a belief system that is based on a universal negative (holding to a Universal Negative is irrational unless you have it by revelation from Someone Who knows all things and is qualified to say that something doesn\'t exist) and an argument from ignorance (arguments from ignorance are also irrational.).  Atheism depends on the...

Secular Humanism is probably the most recognized name for the natural-human-goodness belief. If you Google \"Human Goodness Cult,\" you will get this page and some information from Chris Short who writes about, \"Human Service Alliance and after quite a few name changes (to include the University for Human Goodness) it is now known as the Center for Purposeful Living.\" You will also find a Wikipedia page about the so-called \"noble...

Humanism is yet another synonym for Atheism.  Humanism dogmatically supposes  and preaches that there is no God other than humanity.  Humanists are Atheists. Atheism/Humanism is one of the most violent of all religions, and, like all religions, it claims to be peaceful. If Humanists/Atheists were truly not a religion bent on control and conversion, there would not be the angst for spreading their false gospel and defending their make-believe belief...
