Foundations of the Gospel

Condensed: All have sinned.  The wages of sin is death.  The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.  If you confess that Jesus is your Lord, you will be saved.

Bottom line: If you tell Jesus that He is your Lord, you will be saved.  You are asking Him to run your life.  You are coming with respect and submission to Him.  You are giving in to Him and allowing Him to be your King and God.  He sees your innermost mind and knows if you are sincere or not.  If you have doubts, keep seeking Him, and He will remove the doubts.  If you try to walk with half your mind following Jesus and half your mind following the culture or sinful friends, that won't work.  You will fall.  If you try to be double-minded, you will receive nothing from Him.

What it is not: This is not about forms and ritualistic worship services.  The Church is definitely part of the Gospel, and the God's ways have definite order and pattern, but so much of what is called "church" has nothing to do with the real Church the Jesus died for.  The Church is not an entertainment.  The Church is not a coffee shop.  The Church is not repetition of ritualistic ceremony.  Read the Bible and God will show you what the Church is.

What it is: This is about finding Christ Himself in a very personal relationship.  It is a relationship in which He is Lord and King and you are in submission to Him.  That is why some people prefer hell to serving their Creator God.  However, only in full submission to the King of kings is there ever lasting satisfaction.

Below, some common questions are answered:

God created a perfect world with no sin, death, pain, or any other problems. Adam and Eve and all the animals ate plants exclusively. (Genesis 1:29-30).

Adam and Eve believed Satan and obeyed him rather than believing and obeying God.  “By one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12)  (Genesis 1:1-9)

Death and sin entered through Adam and Eve.  Judgment must follow sin because God is not unjust. Through the Bible and through the creation itself, God has revealed that He judged the world by sending a worldwide catastrophic flood. God has revealed that God will judge the entire world by fire.  God has also revealed that He must judge every person who doesn't acknowledge Him.

God revealed that He would bring a Savior through the woman.  "And I will put enmity between you [Satan, the serpent] and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."  (Genesis 3:15)

God revealed His Law.  Mankind could not obey this law since they were in bondage to Satan. "Don't you know that to whom you yield yourselves as servants into obedience, you are servants to whatever you obey, whether you obey sin into death, or you obey into righteousness?" (Romans 6:16)

Righteousness and obedience are not possible as a work independent from God but righteousness is a free gift from God that is by grace, which is through faith. "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the completed purpose of the law into righteousness to everyone who believes." (Romans 10:3-4)  "For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more those who receive abundance of divine power for righteousness, holiness, and redemption and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in genuine and absolute fullness of life by One, Jesus Christ.) (Romans 5:17)

(Romans 3:20)  "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

Romans 7:7 where he says “I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.” Although this law was given specifically to the Israelites, the fact is there are moral absolutes (lying, stealing, murder etc) which are now ‘written in our heart’.

Q: How can I be righteous?

Just as Eve believed Satan rather than God, you must believe God rather than Satan. "For with the innermost mind man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made into salvation." (Romans 10:10)  "Being justified freely by His divine power for righteousness, holiness, and redemption through the release from bondage to [sin] that is in Christ Jesus," (Romans 3:24)

Q: How can I believe?

You must hear His voice. "So then supernatural belief and trust comes by hearing, and hearing by the utterance of God."

Q: How can I hear His Voice?

You cannot read Scripture without hearing His Voice.  God speaks through Scripture.  The question is, will you acknowledge Him?

(some caveats about hearing God's Voice)

Whoever acknowledge Him finds Him. You can hear Him in the Bible.  "All scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, so that the godly person may be completely trustworthy, thoroughly furnished to all good works." (1 Timonty 3:16-17) You can hear Him when anyone speaks by the Spirit of Christ. "You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these mute idols as you were led. Therefore I give you to understand, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus cursed, and that no one can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost." (1 Corinthians 12:2-3)  "And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your mind." (Jeremiah 29:13)  "I say to you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs.  And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened." (Luke 11:8-13)  More biblical references

Q: Must I commit to obeying Him?  There are some things that I'm not ready to give up?

"Let him who is taught in the utterance come Into fellowship with Him who teaches in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. For he who sows into his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows into the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap genuine and absolute fullness of life of the Kingdom Age." (Galatians 6:6-8)

Q: Why do I need to believe that He is speaking to me through the Bible?  Why doesn't He give me a sign?

God says, “If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.” (Luke 16:31)

Q: Why should I believe that God exists?

"For, in the gospel, the righteousness of God is unveiled from supernatural belief and trust to supernatural belief and trust. As it is written, 'The just shall live by supernatural belief and trust.' For the wrath of God is unveiled from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who restrain the truth in poor judgment, because that which may be known of God is plainly known among them, for God has made it visible it to them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, when they knew God, they didn't glorify Him as God, neither were they thankful, but they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish innermost minds were darkened. (Romans 1:17-21)

Q: But I'm a good person; isn't that enough?

You must be perfect or else forgiven. "All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." (Romans 3:12) "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin." (Romans 3:20)  "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

Q: What is sin?

"Whoever does miss the mark (sin) also does lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness." (1 John 3:4)  "... Whatever is not of faith is sin."  Romans 14:23b

Q: Where did sin come from?

In the beginning, there was no sin, but humanity was given freedom to choose.  It came from Adam's disobedience.  That was what started the bondage.  From that time, every person has chosen disobedience over obedience.

“ … the wages of sin is death … ” (Romans 6:23a)

Q: If death is a mechanism for evolving new creatures via survival of the fittest, then how is death an enemy?

If you go back to Genesis 1-3, which is mentioned at the top of this page, you will see that molecules-to-man evolution is merely a story that is trying to compete with what God says.  No one can show you a repeatable scientific experiment that absolutely proves that evolution happened.  They work on trying to show that evolution could possibly have happened, but this is done with stories, analogies, and arguments rather than science, since science can't show a lie to be true.

Q: If the wages of sin is death, then when did the first death take place?

After the first sin, which was committed by the first man, Adam.  There was no death before sin.

“ … the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ … ” (Romans 6:23b)

Q: When will death be completely conquered?

"For He must reign until He has put all his enemies under His feet.  The last enemy to be destroyed is death."  (1 Corinthians 15:25-26)

Q: Why did Jesus have to die to pay the penalty for sin?

“ … if you confess Jesus as Lord … you shall be saved … ” (Romans 10:9)

Q: Why do I need to be saved?

Because you are incapable of saving yourself.  If God were not merciful and forgiving, He would not have taken human form and died in your place.

Q: What are we saved from?

Salvation is from sin, death, and hell, the results of sin.  Salvation is to the genuine life of the coming age.  Salvation if from slavery to sin.  Salvation is to good works, holiness, and complete freedom from the influence of Satan, the sinful fleshly nature, and the pressures of this present evil culture.

Q: Why do I need to confess Jesus as Lord?

You must accept Jesus as Lord.  That is the whole point of the relationship.  For this you were created.

Q: Should I feel different after I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior?

It's not about feeling.  It's about reality.

Q: I thought that you had to be born again.  What's all this got to do with being born again?

When you receive Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord, you are born again.

Q: What about works?

You are not saved by works.  You are saved to works.  Righteousness is a free gift from God that He gives by grace through faith.

Q: What does by grace through faith mean?

When God speaks to you, faith comes.  Faith is not the make-believe faith of those who don't acknowledge God.  Faith is a supernatural gift of belief the flows from God.  This is the only kind of faith that can give you access to God's grace, God's power for righteousness, holiness, and redemption.  (read more)
