Because of the way that logic works, it is impossible to really know anything without miraculous revelation. Three entities claim to have this capability: the human mind, evil spirits, and God. When it is the human mind, the philosophy is called rationalism; in the Bible it is called a vision out of your own heart. Many religions look to earth spirits/evil spirits, sometimes called gods or spirit guides; the Bible strictly forbids seeking counsel from these fallen angels. Then there is that which comes from God. God speaks. He speaks in many ways, perhaps most clearly from His God-breathed book, the Bible. He also guides us moment by moment, giving us a firm foundation for our thoughts. The human mind is deceitfully wicked. Evil spirits are liars and they report to Satan, the chief of liars. But God never lies or deceives. All who seek Him find Him. Jesus said, "My sheep know my voice." (some caveats about hearing God's Voice) Those who support the idea of rationalism will sometimes have trouble admitting that they believe that the human mind miraculously creates information. In fact, they use the term, "reason," when they really mean, "RATIONALIZATION." Many will make a claim for observation plus logic, but if you follow their logic to the root/basis, you find that there is some kind of starting point that has no basis other than that it came out of the human mind. It may be declared to be obviously true or to be an axiom or to be self-evident, but it is either a miraculous revelation created by the human mind or else it is a baseless assumption. Is there another thing that it can possibly be? Some of the typical foundational thoughts of the rationalists are: rationalism, scientism, relativism, post-modernism, Naturalism, materialism, and uniformitarianism. Concerning the revelation that comes from God, it is good to know about Jesus, but it is more important to know Jesus. It is even more important to be transfigured to be like Jesus by the renewing of your mind. Your mind can only be renewed by the Holy Spirit--obedience to God's leading by the power of God's grace. This is the righteousness-by-grace-through-faith experience.
