Yielding Our Eyes And Our Tongues To The Holy Spirit

There are two areas where God seems to particularly emphasize yielding our members to Him, these are the eyes and the tongues.

When we yield our eyes to God, we see things as they really are.  We begin to see Him as He really is.  If we look at what the original Greek means, 1 John 3:2 says that now, we are the immature children of God, and what we shall be has not yet been revealed (actually, the flesh has not been taken away to reveal it).  But when Christ is revealed (when the flesh is taken away to reveal Christ), we shall see Him as He is, and we shall be changed to be like Him.  Romans 12:2 tells us that we have every reason not to be conformed to this world but to rather be transfigured by allowing the Holy Spirit to renew our minds.  This renewing is from from glory to glory.  2 Corinthians 3:18 lets us know that as we all take the veil away from our faces and see the glory of God in our brothers and sisters who are made in the image of God, we are changed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.  When we fail to discern the Body of Christ, we only see the flesh (1 Corinthians 11:29).  But henceforth know we no man after the flesh but after the spirit (2 Corinthians 5:16).  When we fail to discern the body of Christ, we plant the seeds of bitterness in our minds (Galatians 6:7-9).  This is the opposite of holiness.  We actually proceed backwards, planting the seeds of the enemy.

When we look at ourselves, we must also look through the eyes of Jesus.  God wants us to come into the Holy of Holies and see the view from there.  In that position, we no longer see even ourselves after the flesh.  We see ourselves as ministries.  The ministry is not something we learn or do but something that we become in Christ.  It is Christ in us, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27-29).  Christ is in us and we are in Christ.  We are new creatures.  All the old things have passed away.  We make no provision for it, no provision for the flesh (1 Corinthians 5:17).  Here is an amazing quote (Romans 7:16-20) "... It Is No More I That Do It, But Sin That Dwelleth In Me..."  Then, Paul goes on to say: "Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me."  Paul is very clear that this is not an excuse to go on sinning.  He states very clearly that this applies to those who agree with God and who have committed themselves to righteousness.  The bottom line is that we are to be so identified with the ministry, the Christ within us, that we realize that the old Adam is a completely different person.  We have died to self.  We have died to sin (Romans 6:1).  We don't identify with the flesh, the self.  The world works on its self-image, but we don't concern ourselves with the old self.  The self can't be reformed (Romans 7:22-23).  The self has to die (Romans 6:2-14).

The tongue is also a little member that we need to turn over to Jesus.  Your tongue directs your whole being just as a small rudder guides a huge ship or a bit directs a horse.  We need to learn to yield this member to the Holy Spirit so that we speak as the oracle of God and cease to speak our own words.  (James 3:3-4)    Ephesians 4:29 tells us not to let any corrupt communication come out of our mouths, but that which is good and what builds up so that it may impart grace to the hearers.
