And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;   Ephesians 2:20

Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Church.  There can never be any other foundation.  And we must be careful how we build because our work will be tested by fire. 

The apostles are built on the foundation of Jesus.  So many organizations have creative little ways to define their doctrines, but God has His own ideas about how doctrine is given to the church.  It's given through the foundational ministries that are built, according to the pattern, on Jesus Christ, the cheif corner stone.  Then, those foundational ministries give the foundational doctrines.
