Do we have to make a choice between science and the Bible?

NO!

That is NOT where the problem is, but that is what everyone seems to want to talk about.

Take science as an example. How can we know anything about the created material world around us?

How can we know anything from what we can see using natural sciences?

We all see the same things in the material world, but we don't come to the same answers.

Why is that?

How can we know anything about the Bible and what it teaches? Every person believes different things about the Bible and how it should be read.

Why is that?

Same scientific facts. Different answers.

Same Bible. Different answers.

Why is that?

The true question is this: How do we come to our answers that we get from what we can see through science or what we can read in the Bible?

How do we think about what we see using science or what we read in the Bible?

How do we analyze what we have seen and read?

How do we interpret what we have seen and read?

We use logic, but logic always has a foundation. Jesus talked about building on the Rock. That Rock is Jesus Christ. He is the true foundation. There are also the false foundations of the ungodly.

An example might help.

Question: Why do you believe in evolution?

Answer: Because my science teacher told me that evolution is scientific fact.

Question: Why do you believe your science teacher?

Answer: because he agrees with the textbook he assigned us to read.

Now, we have asked, "Why?" twice.

If we continued to ask, "Why?" we would come down to the foundation of this person's thoughts.

When we get down to the foundations, there are no more questions that can be answered. So where to the foundations come from?

There are three possibilities.

divine revelation

Question: Why do you believe in creation?

Answer: Because God revealed this to me. He spoke to me through the Bible and gave me His faith so that I could believe Him.

See how quickly we got to the foundation. This is a belief that has a foundation that is solid and that cannot be moved.

In reality, the things that we make up, that are pulled from the air, are actually from demons and all the lies of demons spring from the prince of demons, Satan. So these are one and the same.

Divine revelation comes from the Almighty, Creator, God, Jesus Christ. So there are only two choices, but how do we know there are only two choices? Because God has revealed this truth to us.

The question then is how do we tell the difference between the revelation that comes from God and the lies of Satan?

The answer is that everyone who sincerely wants to do the will of God will know.

Jesus said, "If you really want to obey God, you will know if what I teach comes from God or from me"

The rejection of the revelation that comes from God is not an intellectual problem. It is a moral problem.

Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened." *

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? Matthew 7:7-11 *

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can set the truth before someone, but you can't make anyone believe those things that they don't want to submit to. They have to want to obey God.

How frequently it is brought to our attention that nothing good can be done if the will is wrong! Reason alone fails to justify itself. Richard M. Weaver

Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32)

"If we are not prepared to buy the truth at the cost of our own humbling we shall not receive it"

Lies appear to have no price upon them. They seem cheap and they abound everywhere. But for the truth there is always an obvious price to pay.

"[God] has set a day when He will judge all the world's people with fairness. And He has chosen the man Jesus to do the judging for Him. God has given proof of this to all of us by raising Jesus from death" (Acts 17:31).

"There is a judge for the one who rejects Me [Jesus] and does not accept My words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day" (John 12:48)

That also stands for every person who speaks the utterances of Jesus. When we hear them, we hear Jesus Christ, and we either accept or reject. Every person who follows Jesus Christ is commanded to only speak His utterances and not their own.

"When we love others, we know that we belong to the truth, and we feel at ease in the presence of God" (1 John 3:19)

Ravi Zacharias did two open forums in a university. On the second night, one man told him that he had brought two Atheists in the night before who said that the arguments presented were so strong that they could not contend with them, but they were going to remain Atheists because that is what they prefer to be true.

In another case of just listening to an unbeliever and drawing out his reasoning, the unbeliever finally came to his foundations.

They turned out to be assumptions that were pulled from the air. When asked why he believed his basic assumption, the unbeliever looked startled and blurted out, "I guess I'm making the whole thing up." It was quite a revelation to him since he hadn't even known that he had any assumptions. However, he decided to remain an Atheist because he didn't want God to rule over him.

Jesus said, "You must be born again." Nicodemus didn't have a clue what Jesus meant. He asked, 'How can I be born again?" It's a great question. The answer is, "you must believe in Jesus for deliverance from your sins." Being born again is getting started on the road to spiritual success. Once you get started, hopefully, you take ground, hold the ground, and go on to total victory.

Of course, if you are born again, there is nothing to be proud about. The Father had to draw you or you would never have believed. Everything good comes from God. Also, being born again is just the very start of your walk with God. You are born a baby. Now, God expects that you will grow up into the fullness of Him. He has provided the Church for the purpose--not the make-believe church but the true Church that is built according to the pattern of Scripture.

When you accept Jesus, you must accept the real Jesus. The real Jesus is your Prophet, Priest, & King. You accept Him as your Lord and Savior. This requires that you accept reality. Reality will make you humble enough to realize that you need Jesus Christ ruling over you in your life. Humility is actually just realization of reality. If you don't want Him to rule over you, you have not accepted Him. Some people want to be born again so that they can escape hell. They don't want to be delivered from sin. They want to be born again and yet continue in their sin. The trouble with this idea is that no one can fool God. No one can say that they want to be born again when they really want to remain as a slave of Satan. To be born again is to be set free from that slavery.

The commitment is much more than saying, "Yeah, I believe the Jesus exists and that He died so I would not have to go to hell." You cannot fool God. (Read More) In John 3:15, Jesus says: "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." This actually means: "whoever believes INTO Him should not perish but have eternal life." Then, in John 3:15, Jesus says: "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." Again, this literally means, "believes INTO Him." The rest of what Jesus said was: " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in [literally INTO] him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on [literally INTO] him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in [literally INTO] the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18) (Explaining "INTO" is a task for another page, but it has to do with Who Christ is. We all know that He is the Head of the Church, which is His Body, true God and Son of God in Heaven. We sometimes forget that, "as the [human] body is one and has many members, so also is Christ.

Here is the truth. It would be impossible to understand what it would be to be born again without actually having the experience of being born again. Any person who goes through the experience of being born again has begun to understand reality for the first time. The experience with God, being born again into God's family, is so real that the babbling of the scoffers, slaves of Satan, has no effect. We cannot purchase or earn this rebirth that results in our justification. Rebirth is how you get started. Rebirth through Jesus is a free gift. Rebirth must be accepted simply because God will not force His love on anyone. Many reject God's love because they prefer not to make Jesus their King. They don't want to be born again, because they don't want to be ruled by Jesus.

God created us to be joined to Him. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 We cannot function in any meaningful way without being fully joined to God with us in total submission to His glory and power. 1 Peter 5:2 We were created for this. Romans 8:28-29 It's the only way we can be fulfilled. John 3:36 2 Thessalonians 1:7-12 God created everything by His Word, ("Let there be...") for this purpose--that we would be one with Him. Colossians 1:14-22 Satan rebelled against God and then deceived Adam and Eve into obeying him rather than obeying God. There is a spiritual law that you become a slave of whomever you obey. Because of this law, Adam's and Eve's following Satan rather than God, this law made them and all their descendants (the whole human race) slaves of Satan. Disobedience to God separated them from God. Satan became the father of the human race rather than God. Everyone must obey Satan, and everyone willingly does so. Humanity enjoys this slavery to Satan, even though it results in all the misery, death, and destruction that we see all around us. Even though Satan's promise of satisfaction is always empty.

Then God paid the price to buy us back to Himself so that He can once again be our Father God. It was a terrible price to pay; He sent His Son, Jesus. If there were any other way, then God would not have allowed His only begotten Son to suffer in this way. There was and is no other way. Bearing the sin and rebellion of the entire world through thousands of years was so horrible that Jesus asked the Father to use some other way if there was any other way. But there was no other way. God says, in His Word, there is no other way. There simply is no other way. In fact, you can't even see the Kingdom of the Heavens unless you are born again. John 3:3

And we are born of the Spirit (water is a type of the Spirit) so that we can begin to participate in the Kingdom of the Heavens. There is nothing in the earthly realm that can compare to the Kingdom of the Heavens. Though not every person who is born again is willing to participate in the Kingdom of the Heavens, for those who choose to do so, the path goes from light to ever greater light and from glory to ever greater glory. The degree to which we participate in the Kingdom is the degree to which we are willing to submit to the Spirit of God.
