Proverbs was written to pass on the wisdom of God. 1. the purpose of the proverbs--listen to the instruction of your father and mother rather than the enticing words of evil people who sound so good--wisdom, Jesus Christ is our wisdom, 1 Cor. 1:30, warns--a mind that listens in submission to Jesus' voice--the bad things that happen by not listening 2. listen to the utterance of God; then you will discern righteousness, justice, equity, and everything that is good and He will be a shield guarding you from evil people 3. Wisdom's benefits and rewards--Trust your mind to the Lord and don't depend on your own understanding; keep God in your knowledge in everything, let Him guide your thoughts, and He will direct your whole life--be kind 4. total concentration to get wisdom--avoid the influence of the wicked/fools--guard your mind; the tongue; the eyes; what you do 5. stay far from sexual sin--the sanctity and blessing of sex in marriage (also a type of the mind submitted to Christ)--death is in sexual sin (also a type of the natural human mind) 6. don't make yourself liable for anyone else's debt--be diligent and hard-working--proud sin: some people think sin is funny and cool 7. the charm, temptation, and allure of sexual sin may fool a person with no understanding, but that person's life is at stake (also a type of the natural human mind) 8. Wisdom calls to you and shows you the benefits of following Him--Wisdom dwelt with God before creation 9.
