Emotion-based Christianity substitutes human emotion for the power of the Holy Spirit. It confuses human emotion with the Holy Spirit. Emotion-based Christianity counterfeits the moving of God's Spirit by shouting, emotional body language, loud music and more to stir emotions. In addition, purely fleshly methods such as rock and roll, autogenic visualizations, and New Age practices are used to simulate the Holy Spirit. Some people speak of seeking such things as, "the sensation of God." However, we are not concerned with the sensation but rather the fellowship of Christ, and we don't try to contact the dead in any way. In fact, God forbids us from trying to contact the dead. Our sensations are not always accurate, so we concentrate on getting close to Christ. We also do not venerate angels because God also forbids us from doing this. All the glory goes to God. If it goes to the Father, it goes to the Son and the Holy Ghost. The unity of the Godhead is beyond our understanding. We don't know of anything or any persons who are in unity to that extent. So we don't worry about the Persons individually as we worship. We do understand, by revelation, some things about how the Persons of the Trinity work together. 1 Corinthians 12 is instructive. SeekFind.net has a page on the Trinity that goes into some detail. One person wrote about "the emotional feeling of Grace" and "the glorifying sensation of Divinity." It is true that there is often a feeling or sensation when God's grace flows, and it is glorious. However, we have learned that emotional feelings can be very deceiving just as the rational workings of the human mind can be deceiving. In either case, we can be rationalizing and not dealing with things as they are in reality. Grace is the grace of God. It is the very power of God for righteousness and transfiguration. It is a free gift and it doesn't come from ourselves. It is important that we don't seek sensations and feelings just as it is important that we don't seek angels, dead saints, or any such thing. We must seek the King of kings, the Only Creator Triune God of all the universe rather than experiences, sensations, and feelings.
