Scientism

God gave mankind scientific method as a gift, a way that He can impart knowledge to mankind. Mankind began worshiping scientific method as if it were a god on its own, ascribing to it god-like qualities that it doesn't really have. Following the pattern of the brass serpent in the Old Testament which God gave to heal the people when a plague came as punishment for sin, so, with science, they began to worship the gift of God rather than God Himself. In fact, without the revelation from God that there is order to the universe, there is no reason at all to think that scientific method would be anything but arbitrary.

"Unlike the use of the scientific method as only one mode of reaching knowledge, Scientism claims that science alone can render truth about the world and reality. Scientism's single-minded adherence to only the empirical, or testable, makes it a strictly Scientifc worldview, in much the same way that a Protestant fundamentalism that rejects science (there are different fundamentalisms) can be seen as a strictly religious worldview. Scientism sees it necessary to do away with most, if not all, metaphysical, philosophical, and religious claims, as the truths they proclaim cannot be apprehended by the scientific method. Another claim for Scientism is as follows:

"Scientism is a scientific worldview that encompasses natural explanations for all phenomena, eschews supernatural and paranormal speculations, and embraces empiricism and reason as the twin pillars of a philosophy of life appropriate for an Age of Science." ~ Michael Shermer

This claim also contains a re-definition of science by Shermer. It also contains the non-specific term, reason. There are many ways of reasoning. There is strict deductive logic. There is rationalization that is too often found in published scientific papers. There is revelation: "Come, let us reason together says the Lord." And there are many other things that are called reason.

Scientism is the idea that natural science is the most authoritative worldview or aspect of human education, and that it is superior to all other interpretations of life. It is the view that view that only scientific claims are meaningful. This is, of course, as self-refuting statement since it cannot be proven by the methods of natural science.

Why is this a cult? Scientism makes a god out of the human mind and human ability to observe. The Bible calles idolatry, adultery. It refers to idolatry as whoring.

The human mind was designed and created to be anointed with the Holy Spirit. God designed it to be in submission to His mind. Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD. God desires to guide our thoughts. He is the only source of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Scientism scoffs at the Bible as a source of understanding and knowledge. And Scientism scoffs even more at revelation from the throne of God.

While Scientism is self-refuting, unproven, and unprovable by its own claim and simply a concoction of the human mind, Christianity is based on Jesus Christ, the Living Christ, Who reveals Himself to the Christian on an ongoing basis. Believer's have the supernatural trust that is a gift from God. By this trust, we see Jesus and hear His Voice. It is Jesus Himself who reveals to us that the Bible is His Word, His Utterance. And it is Jesus Himself Who speaks to us through His Word. Jesus speaks to us through many different means: Scripture, intuition, bringing Scripture to our remembrance, apostles, prophets, etc. When God speaks to us, faith comes and with faith comes a vision of hope. This vision shows us who we are in Christ in an ever-more-clear understanding. When God speaks, He instructs us what to think, what to say, and what to do. Then, He does the work through us by His grace, His free gift of righteousness. This righteousness of God in us is the moving of the Holy Spirit that transfigures us from glory to glory to be like Jesus, killing our fleshly nature and causing Christ to be more fully formed in us. And this death to self, to the old adamic sin nature, and building up of Christ is the very thing that redeems us, sets us free from slavery to the fleshly nature, to Satan, to the pressures of the world, and to death.
